How STEP Works
  1. Assessment and placement: We use Language Needs & Assets information and Canadian Language Benchmarks (CLB) assessments to help place you in the best‑fit learning option.

  2. Flexible learning: STEP can include self‑directed learning on Avenue.ca and live classes in person or on Zoom, depending on the learning option you choose.

  3. Practical topics: Learn job‑related language and workplace skills such as job search, onboarding, workplace communication, and health & safety.

    • Practise conversations for real life and the Canadian workplace — not just textbook English.

    • Learn what Canadian employers expect — and how to show your strengths.

    • Practise Soft Skills for everyday life and work in Canada.

  4. Recognition: Earn a certificate of progress and participation to show your progress to employers. (These are not valid for citizenship, but are useful for resumes and employment.)

Skills You'll Build

STEP is designed to strengthen the language and transferable skills that support success at work and in everyday life. We use the Language for Success Framework, which connects Canadian Language Benchmarks (CLB) to the nine Skills for Success.
